About the event
Claydon is an extraordinary 18th-century country house in Buckinghamshire, celebrated for its richly ornamented interiors and layered family history. Once a regular retreat for Florence Nightingale, it remains home to the Verney family and is cared for in partnership with the National Trust.
White Cube—one of the world’s leading contemporary art galleries—has collaborated with the National Trust and the Verney family to place works by more than twenty acclaimed artists throughout the house and grounds. The result is a compelling juxtaposition of Claydon’s traditional grandeur with contemporary art, revealing its architecture, collections and complex past through a new lens.
In the grand Saloon, portraits by Van Dyck look onto Cai Guo-Qiang’s explosive gunpowder painting, while Rachel Kneebone’s delicate porcelain sculptures echo the exuberant Rococo carving of the North Hall.
