About the event
Ever wondered how a bronze sculpture is cast? Lockbund Foundry, established by artists Simon Allison and Jane Hamilton, uses the lost-wax method — one of the oldest and most precise techniques for creating metal sculpture.
An artist begins by modelling their sculpture in wax. This form is encased in a heat-resistant mould and heated until the wax melts away, leaving a hollow cavity that perfectly mirrors the original shape. Molten bronze is then poured into the space and left to cool and solidify. Once the mould is removed, the bronze sculpture is revealed and carefully finished by hand through chasing, welding and patination to achieve its final surface.
The result is a bronze work that captures every detail, gesture and texture of the original sculpture.
Lockbund Foundry will take Countryside Art Club through the full lost-wax casting process, as well as a curator-led visit to Far Far Gallery with Ben…
